Erectile Dysfunction (ED) is a rather medical-sounding name that simply means ‘difficulties with achieving or maintaining an erection’. Premature ejaculation (PE) simply means ejaculating sooner than wanted during sexual activity.

Treatments

Oral medications

Oral medications for erectile dysfunction are tablets that are taken by mouth. These include Sildenafil (Viagra®, Silvasta® & Vedafil®), Tadalafil (Cialis®, Cilatil®) and Vardenafil (Levitra®). Oral medications for premature ejaculation are also available and can be discussed during consultation.

The Self-Injection Method

This is where vasodilating medications are injected directly into part of the penis to medically induce an erection. While this may sound daunting, our staff are extremely knowledgeable around these products and their use. These medications have a high success rate, and may be able to be used where oral medications are contraindicated by other medications such as nitrates, or when oral medications have not been successful.

These injectable medications include various combinations of the drugs Alprostadil, Phentolamine, Papaverine and Atropine. If the doctor decides this is the best treatment for you, we offer full education of the administration of these products to show you just how easy they are to use. This includes follow up discussion with the nurse around dose titration and product composition.

Therapy

This is where we may suggest seeing a professional sex therapist to discuss the ED/PE issues you’re facing.

Vacuum Pump

This is a product that is used prior to sexual activity to manually induce an erection that is sustained with a tension ring.

Premature Ejaculation Treatments

These include oral medications and topical medications.

Problems can be mild, short term and intermittent, or severe and entrenched. As these problems can be caused by a number of factors, we take a holistic approach to our consultation with you. This can be either through our ‘Short Sexual Health’ consultation which is 45 minutes in duration, or our popular ‘Full Sexual Health’ consultation, which is over an hour and a half in duration and includes having comprehensive blood testing done prior to seeing us. These consultations provide time for us to obtain a thorough history of the problem, discuss of potential causes and tailor a solution just for you.
